Sam Watkins, from Maury County, Tennessee, was 21 years old when the War Between the States began in 1861. He marched and camped and fought with Company H of the First Tennessee Regiment from the beginning until the end of the war. In 1881-82, Sam's memoirs of the Civil War were printed in the Columbia Herald newspaper and then published as the book Co. Aytch.
