Lots of mamas struggle with this fear—am I going to ruin my children? I remember those fears well.

You can imagine my dismay one day in the 1980s when I told our then-two-year-old, "I love you," and she said, "I don't want you to love me!"

"Well, I thought . . . I’ve done pretty well with the first two. I've ruined this one."

If you knew this all-grown-up child now—this person who lives to follow God and to bless other people, you'd find it hard to believe that conversation ever happened.

But, haven't we all wondered at one time or another if we are going to ruin our children? The fear feels so real, but let’s stop and think about it. Think about what God said in Psalm 127, verse 3.

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord;
The fruit of the womb is a reward.

God gave your children to you—specifically to you. They are His gift to you. He trusts you with them. You can trust Him to work through you.

Just because you cannot see what's further down the road, does not mean that God can't. God loves your children even more than you do and He gave them to you. He knows what He is doing. You can trust Him.
