Each spring I marvel again at the millions of tiny lavender flowers that bloom by the roadside near our home. They spread out like a pastel carpet near the river. They mingle with other wildflowers as they cling to the sides of rocky banks.
They add beauty to these landscapes. They also look pretty in small bunches. What is even more wonderful is to hold one stem in your hand and look closely at the tiny feathered petals, thin green pistils, . . .

. . . and beautifully-shaped leaves.

Up-close you see tiny buds that God has provided with instructions for how to open into more flowers.

You see your children in that up-close way. You watch. You teach. You wait. You rejoice when their tiny buds open, whether an intellectual breakthrough, or a spiritual, physical, or emotional one.
God sees both you and your childrenin that up-close way.

Are not two sparrows sold for a cent?
And yet not one of them
will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So do not fear;
you are more valuable than many sparrows.
